Privacy Policy
Last updated September 27, 2026
We deeply respect your privacy. Living Earth has no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. This policy explains what data the app uses and why.
On iPhone and iPad, Living Earth collects usage data that isn't tied to who you are, through Google's Firebase: device information (e.g., model, operating system), app usage (e.g., app opens, sessions), which features are turned on, and crash reports. We use it only to fix bugs and improve the app. The Mac app collects none of this.
To show weather, the app sends the coordinates of the cities in your list to our server, which gets forecasts from the weather provider you choose. If you allow location access, your current location is used the same way, and only while you're using the app. Weather providers only receive an approximate location, and we never use your location to track you.
These requests also include your app version, language, and a random install ID that isn't linked to you, which we use only to count how many people use Living Earth.
If you turn on hurricane alerts, we store your device's notification token with the regions you picked, your language, and time zone so alerts can reach you. Turning alerts off deletes it.
We only share data with services that help run Living Earth: Google for analytics and crash reports, the weather provider you choose, and our hosting providers. Some of them are in the United States, so your data may be processed there.
We never sell your data or share it for marketing or advertising, and the app doesn't include code that reads your device's advertising identifier. You can turn off location or notifications anytime in Settings.
We keep data only as long as we need it. Error notes on our server are deleted within about three weeks, install IDs within 8 days, and alert registrations when you turn alerts off. Google keeps crash reports for 90 days and usage data for 2 months.
Under laws like the GDPR, we rely on providing the features you use (weather and alerts) and our legitimate interest in improving the app (usage data and crash reports). Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your data, object to how we use it, or complain to your local data protection authority. Since there are no accounts, we usually can't match data to you, but email us and we'll do our best to help. Deleting the app removes everything stored on your device.
This privacy policy may be updated to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. When it changes, we'll update the date above.
